Dr Jeganathan’s Professional Biography Claims?

It may be an idea to consider and question Dr Jeganathan’s professional biographies when deciding on to whether to consult with him, as there appears to be what could be considered serious questions raised by his statements made in them!

Dr Mugunthan Jeganathan is a doctor who currently operates in Canberra, ACT and promotes himself (on the following websites: 360UV Skin Cancer Clinic; Ochre; and Hot Doc) as an:

“… experienced skin cancer doctor with over a decade [i.e. since 2016] of expertise in the field ”

and promotes himself on his own professional website (jegskincancer.com.au) as having:

“… over a decade of expertise in diagnosing and managing all types of skin cancers.”,

but the fact of the matter is that he specialised and practiced as a General Practitioner (Family Doctor / Generalist Medicine) until 2024.

From available records, Dr Jeganathan only started to practice as a specialist skin cancer doctor since 2024 i.e. approx. 2 years ago.

A further point to consider is that the first reference to “skin cancer” by Dr Jeganathan, was located in his professional bio’s, where he stated that he had a “… passion for Skin Cancer detection and treatment”, which appeared in Jeganathan’s ‘Professional Bio’ published on the Ginninderra Medical Centre website in 2021 (i.e. only 5 years ago)!

His 2019 Professional Bio on the same website made no mention of any interest in Skin Cancer.

Interestingly the 360UV Skin Cancer Clinic website states that:

“In 2013, he relocated to Australia to pursue his passion in this [Skin Cancer] field.”,

but they fail to state that Dr Jeganathan worked full-time as a General Practitioner (Family Doctor / Generalist Medicine) from 2013 until early 2024.

According to Dr Jeganathan’s professional history, as gathered from his numerous professional biographies, appears to be as follows:

· 2000 - graduated University

· 2003 - moved to the UK – specialised in General Practice.

· 2013 – moved to Australia (Canberra ACT) where he went into General Practice (Family Doctor / Generalist Medicine)

at Ginninderra Medical & Dental Centre, Belconnen ACT.

· 2024 - Commenced specialising as a Skin Cancer Doctor

Another statement by Dr Jenganathan, on his website states that: “He holds a Master of Medicine in Skin Cancer [MMed Skin cancer].”) - which from our research is a 2-year part-time course at The University of Queensland - the first reference to this qualification was made by Dr Jenganathan in his Professional Bio in 2023, indicating he only obtained this qualification in the last few years.

The last point of interest in Dr Jenganathan’s professional claim (on his website) is that he was: “Under the mentorship of a leading plastic surgeon…”, without stating the time frame of his claimed mentorship - but what I would suggest is even more concerning is that whilst he claims the “mentorship” was under a “leading plastic surgeon” but he evades identifying the “leading plastic surgeon”!

The glaring question arising from Dr Jenganathan’s professional bios is why he appears to want to completely disown/ignore the fact that he practiced as a general practitioner for over 10 years in Australia from 2013-2024.

It is logical to conclude Dr Jeganathan’s professional biographies are big on claims short of important substantive detail, on which current/potential patients are meant to be able to make fully informed decisions when it comes to choosing their medical practitioner… substantive detail is hardly an unreasonable expectation.                                                                    (270626)
